Here, however, is one truly worth story of being happy and proud about!Even as more than 300 million people wait for electricity in India, Dharnai in Bihar unshackled from darkness and declared itself as an energy-independent village on 20 July.

The Dharnai grid serves about 450 homes, housing 2,400 residents, ngo says, as well as roughly 50 businesses, streetlights, water pumps, two schools, health care center, and other public and private ventures. It has a battery to store excess electricity, for use during the sunless hours.

The people of Dharnai village used to have a facility supplied by the state Government, which provided electricity, but this hasn’t been available for the last 33 years and diesel generators were the only source of electricity.

BKS Iyengar 97th Birthday: Google Doodle celebrates life of yoga guru

Google’s doodle today honours BKS Iyengar, one of the foremost Yoga teachers in India, on his 97th birth anniversary. Through a fun, animated doodle which features an old man identical to Iyengar flitting between different Yoga asanas (postures) between the letters of GOOGLE, the search engine giant said, “BKS Iyengar, it’s been said, could hold a headstand for nearly half an hour well into his eighties.

Iyengar, whose full name is Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar, was born in 1918 into a poor family in southern India – one of 13 children, of whom only 10 survived.

As a child he suffered from poor health and at the age of 15 one of his brother-in-laws, who ran a yoga school in the state of Mysore, invited Iyengar to visit, in order to improve his health through yoga practice.

In 1937, he was 19, he was sent to the city of Pune in the state of Maharashtra to teach yoga but it was not until 1952 that Iyengar became an international guru, after he introduced renowned violinist introduced the violinist Yehudi Menuhin to the art.Menuhin was impressed by Iyengar’s skills and invited his teacher to Switzerland in 1954. After this introduction Iyengar continued visiting the West and schools teaching his brand of yoga were opened across the globe.

A song sung by Tamil star Silambarasanand composed by Kolaveri Di fame music director Anirudh Ravichander has already mired controversy even before its release. The Beep song, as it is being called, is said to have several Tamil cuss words and has not gone down well with many in the state.

Sevenyear old girl gang rape: a crime shame, says BJP

Condemning the gang-rape of a seven- year old girl in the national capital as “crime shame”, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said the law should intervene into the matter.

I think it’s a crime shame that a little girl was gangraped. I would really like to know who these men are. Let’s name and shame them, and find out more as to what made them do the thing that they did. I really think it is the responsibility of law and order and all of us to look into it,” BJP leader Shazia Ilmi told .

Happy Birthday Rajinikanth

Superstar Rajinikanth is way more than just an actor – he is almost considered as a God especially when it come to his huge fan following down South.

Rajinikanth was born as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1950 in a Marathi family in Bangalore. He was named after the Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji. Rajinikanth was the fourth child of Jijabai and Ramojirao Gaekwad, who was a police constable. In the initial years of his childhood and youth, he struggled a lot due to financial issues. Though he came from a Marathi background, Rajinikanth has not acted in any Marathi films as yet.

At the start of his career, he took up a number of odd jobs including being a carpenter and a coolie. He was later employed by Bangalore Transport Service (BTS), where he worked as a bus conductor. He then began to take part in stage plays. He was also offered a part in playwright Topi Muniappa’s mythological plays.

It was during this time that he came across an advert for acting classes at the Madras Film Institute and decided to join against the wishes of his family. His friend and co-worker Raj Bahadur supported him financially during his course.

Manipal University Students Design Solar Powered Car

SolarMobil, a team of 27 students from Manipal University, has built a futuristic automobile, which runs solely on solar power. The car, named SERVe Solar Electric Road Vehicle, was unveiled at Tata Power Solar Headquarters.

The car’s custom-fit solar panels have been designed and manufactured by Tata Power Solar. The team began working on the project in 2012 with Manipal University as their workspace. Cars are our passion and we wanted to make a model that is conducive to a green and sustainable environment. Everything is done by us right from cutting to welding,” said Jeet Bannerjee, Team Manager, SolarMobil.
